Avita Taricuarima

Avita "Avi" Taricuarima represents a new generation of Indigenous women transforming Amazonian science. She is the first Kukama woman from her community to study Biology, breaking educational and cultural barriers. Her work includes co-authoring the article “Zoonotic Parasite in Hoplosternum littorale” and winning First Place in a 2024 competition on bacteria and microplastic degradation. As a community leader, she promotes conservation, responsible tourism, and medicinal plant workshops in partnership with the NGO Amazon Research Internacional. She works with Indigenous children, youth, and elders to connect science with ancestral knowledge. She is a certified tourism guide, an expert in Amazonian survival, and a trilingual communicator.
